“I’ll miss the work and customers, but it’s time to move on,” says Ben Smith about the closing of Ben & Charley’s Woodworks of Teague, Texas.

Ben and his cousin, Charles Henry Steen, owned and operated Ben & Charley’s Woodworks for twelve years in downtown Teague where they repaired, repainted, and refinished wooden items, primarily furniture.

With a background in cabinet making in the Liberty Hill area, Ben decided to move to Teague to work with Charley after his beloved wife passed away twelve years ago.

Following the recent passing of Charley, Ben decided that due to the loss, coupled with his own health issues, it was time to close the shop.

Considering the business closure, Ben is selling all the woodworking tools, equipment, and various other items, to include antique tools, hand tools, corded tools, electric tools with chargers, shaping tools, hand planes, crosscut saws, router tables, Delta Unisaw (10-inch, 3 or 5 horse, 220 volts, and attachments included), commercial band saw, drills, sanders, industrial size band saw, wood lathes with accompanying cutting tools, cabinet making tools and equipment, nuts, bolts, nails, and so more.

Everything in the shop is for sale, including desks, shelves, tables, and even some old dishes.

But that’s not all!

There is also an original Shriner’s Parade Car that is gas powered, is black, has good tires, and a professionally reupholstered seat. The only issue is a jammed transfer gear that needs fixing. He’s asking $1,100 for this one-of-a-kind find.

Another great item up for grabs is a 14-inch saddle, made in the early 1960s in San Antonio. It’s only been ridden a handful of times. It has been well taken care of and comes on a rocking rack. The asking price for this beauty is $550.

Everything is either priced as marked, or if not marked, it’s negotiable.

Visit 506 Main Street in Teague on Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or on Saturday by appointment only.

Ben can be reached by calling 512-818-5731.
