With the multitude of weapon, jewelry, and armor upgrades available in Diablo 4, you can create the perfect build for your character. Not only can you upgrade your items, but you can also add Sockets to hold Gems in them. If you’re new to Diablo 4 and aren't sure where to start, here's a guide on how to use Gems and fill Sockets.

While playing through Diablo 4, you may have stumbled upon a piece of armor, jewelry, or weapon that has a Socket on it. The game doesn't explain exactly how you can fill these Sockets, so we’re here to help. First off, until your character reaches level 20, you won't be able to add Sockets to your armor. But you can still add Gems onto your Sockets! Stupidly, I waited until I could talk with the Jeweler at level 20 to add Gems to Sockets. Then, I realized you can do it right through your inventory.

Grab a Gem inside your inventory, and simply drag it onto armor, jewelry or a weapon with a Socket. This will add a certain stat to it, listed on the Gem. There are a variety of Gem types you can find across Sanctuary. Remember, read the Gem carefully. Not all three stat bonuses add to your item.

It will add one stat, depending on what item you’re adding it to. For example, I attached a Gem to my skirt that gave me a bit more maximum health. It would’ve been an entirely different stat if I added it to my weapon or jewelry.

Now, if you want to take a Gem out, or add a Socket to an item, you’ll need to unlock the Jeweler first. You can find Jewelers in many towns, such as Kyovashad. Now that you know how to use Sockets in Diablo 4, don't forget to add Gems to your items!

Diablo 4 is available on Battle.net.
