May 03, 2023ConnectDER Meter Socket Adapter available in New Jersey, Illinois
ConnectDER is a climate tech company focused on simplifying the connection of DER (distributed energy resources) for homes. We profiled the virtues of the ConnectDER Meter Socket Adapter earlier this year, noting the only thing holding it back is utility approvals.
Technically, ConnectDER’s Meter Socket Adapter is an installer’s dream. The only hitch — and it’s no small hitch — is the MSA needs to be tested and approved by the local utility to use in their interconnection tariff.
“Historically, we work with utilities closely,” Fulton says. “We have redesigned [the adapter] five times based on their feedback, and now it’s just a matter of getting through approvals with each utility.”
At that time, the ConnectDER Meter Socket Adapter was available in 20 states. In June, ConnectDER sent word that it is now approved in a few new markets including New Jersey and Illinois – the top 10 states for solar installations and home to PSE&G and ConEdison – effectively increasing its potential customer base from 9 million to 16 million
With the company reaching 20,000 sales of solar adapters, ConnectDER is also growing its executive ranks. Solar industry veteran Ivo Steklac was named ConnectDER’s new President & Chief Executive Officer. Ivo was most recently Chief Technology Officer of EVgo, and previously was the GM of Residential and Commercial Solar at SunPower.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead a company with extraordinary technology positioned to capitalize on the rapidly developing residential electrification market,” said Steklac. “At SunPower we were constantly on the lookout for game-changing technologies that reduced project costs, that is what first attracted me to ConnectDER. The growth in this sector is massive. In solar alone, the US is expected to add approximately nine million residential homes by 2030, a 15% average annual growth rate. EV charging and storage similarly represent enormous growth opportunities.”
Founder and current CEO Whit Fulton will transition to Chief Product Officer, where he will continue leading product strategy and partnerships.
“Ivo brings extensive experience and a proven track record of leading transformational initiatives within the distributed energy sector. He is the ideal leader for ConnectDER’s next stage of growth. I look forward to working with Ivo to build the pre-eminent distributed energy company,” said Fulton.
